Hausa Koko and Koose

This is one of the most enjoyed beverages in Ghana. Sets you in the right mood ready for a good day.

Tom Brown

This is a combination of milled roasted corn and groundnut. Usually taken with milk and sugar to taste. Most popular accompaniment is a slice bread and egg.

Tea/Milo/Coffee

This is in the script and some people stick by it for their breakfast.

Rice Water

Very popular liquefied rice beverage. Like rice pudding. Sugar and milk added to taste with biscuit or bread on the side.

Lunch

Beans and fried plantain/rice

This food is quite delicious and nutritious. It’s very heavy and also a great source of energy for the rest of the day.

Waakye

You have not eaten Ghanaian food if you have not had a plate of waakye rice, this meal consists of mainly rice and beans, but there is a secret tip to this amazing dish that would be revealed later.

Jollof rice

This is a very popular food across the various countries in West Africa but a little twitch from each other. Though the recipe is different across countries, Ghana reigns in the jollof rice competition. Ghana jollof is miles ahead in taste, looks, and color. It’s mostly served on special occasions.

Dinner

Kontomire Stew

Kontomire stew is made from cocoyam leaves, that have been boiled, after being spiced to taste with several ingredients, you have yourself a delicious stew to enjoy with plantain, yam, or rice.

Rice Balls (Omo tuo)

This is a soft rice dish, eaten with soup.

Fufu

Pounded cassava and plantain, served with your choice of soup and meat.

Snacks and drinks

Kelewele

Ghanaian spicy fried ripe plantains that is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Goes well with peanuts and as sides for any protein. After your first try, this snack would automatically become your favorite, from the flavor to the color, to the smell, down to the overall health benefits, amazing!

Hibiscus drink (sobolo)

This drink is common in different parts of Africa, especially Ghana. Its grapery taste makes it a favourite choice for most people. Apart from its taste, people use it for medicinal purposes. It is simply hibiscus tea.

Caramelized Corn drink (Asana)

Asana is a Ghanaian drink made from fermented corn and caramelized sugar. It’s refreshing and tastes great.

Local beer (Pito)

Pito is a type of beer made from fermented millet or sorghum in Ghana. It is made by small (household-level) producers, and is typically served in a calabash.
